Hey, I was baptized, and this is crazy, But God just called me, so ordain a lady!

Ok, so this isn’t Anglican but an ‘interesting’ take on women’s ordination from some Roman Catholics. I found it more cringy than helpful, I think, but it’s growing on me! For those of you not ‘down with the kids’ it’s a spoof take on the original song by Carly Rae Jepsen – Call me Maybe.

All for a good cause (in our opinion): www.womensordination.org

The lyrics are as follows:

“Ordain a Lady”

I had a dream as a girl
Like Therese of Lisieux
I need to give this whirl
So I can lead the way

Woman priest is my call
Women preaching for all
Don’t listen to St. Paul
‘Cuz I can lead the way

My ministry is growing
Excommunication? I’m still glowing.
M.Div, chasuble flowing
Where you think the Church is going?

Hey, I was baptized, and this is crazy,
But God just called me, so ordain a lady!
Justice doesn’t look right, with only male priests,
But God just called me, so ordain a lady!

Hey, I was baptized, and this is crazy,
But God just called me, so ordain a lady!
All the other Churches, try to schmooze me,
But I’m a Catholic, so ordain a lady!

My call is a fact, but some Pope in a hat,
Closed discussion on that, and now he’s in my way
I pray, sing, and feel
At first communion it’s real
I but I refuse to kneel,
To Patriarchy’s way

My ministry is growing
Excommunication? I’m still glowing.
M.Div, chasuble flowing
Where you think the Church going?

Hey, I was baptized, and this is crazy,
But God just called me, so ordain a lady!
Justice doesn’t look right, with only male priests,
But God just called me, so ordain a lady!

Hey, I was baptized, and this is crazy,
But God just called me, so ordain a lady!
All the other Churches, try to schmooze me,
But I’m a Catholic, so ordain a lady!

With women priests in my life, I was so glad
I missed them so bad, I missed them so, so bad
With women priests in my life, I was so glad
We want our Church back, we want it all, all back

Justice doesn’t look right with only male priests
But God just called me, so ordain a lady!

Hey, I was baptized, and this is crazy,
But God just called me, so ordain a lady!
All the other Churches, try to schmooze me,
But I’m a Catholic, so ordain a lady!

With women priests in my life, I was so glad
I missed them so bad, I missed them so, so bad
With women priests in my life, I was so glad
We want our Church back, we want it all, all back

ordain a lady

  1. In one lyric, she says she’s Catholic, but in the rest of the song, she demonstrates she is ignorant of the faith or heretical or schismatic. (I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt and will believe she is ignorant of the faith.) Early in the song, she says, “Don’t listen to Saint Paul.” Saint Paul was an apostle selected by Jesus Himself. He is the author of a large portion of the New Testament. As an author of part of the Holy Bible, his writings are considered inspired by the Holy Spirit, i.e. God wrote through Paul. So, of course, we should listen to *all* he has to say. We must take it upon ourselves to learn what Paul (or any other biblical author) meant if there is something we don’t quite understand or agree with.

She says the pope is “in my way.” The pope is the successor to Peter, the vicar of Christ, the earthly head of the body of Christ. It appears to me she may want to call herself Catholic, but she is hardly obedient. She apparently has a shallow concept of the faith. Over the last few years, I have taken it upon myself to start learning the faith. I want to know it is well as I can. It is incumbent upon *all* of us to do the same. We must learn the faith if we are to give our free assent to it. If she rejects any dogmas, then she doesn’t give her free assent. In that case, she is not Catholic by her own decision. If she rejects the teachings of the Church, she’s a heretic. If she rejects the authority of the pope, she’s a schismatic. Any person can say, “I’m Catholic,” but it is a meaningless label if what the Church teaches is rejected. Once a person starts throwing out certain dogmas, he no longer believes in Jesus’ Church, he believes in his own. He’s a protestant.

Humility is of utmost importance. We must give our assent of intellect and will to the Church when we don’t understand something she teaches. Why? Because Jesus founded the Church and gave her teaching authority. Then we must take the time to learn about the subject in order to believe. Humility, obedience, love, these are all things we all need to develop in ourselves. I would suggest she start praying the rosary daily. One more thing, Saint Therese of Lisieux was obedient.

    • I don’t know why you’re wasting your time on us, we’re heretic Protestants and I’m training to be a priest in the Church of England. Have a nice day!

  2. Surely Michaelrosaries things that are written have to be taken in context of the society in which they were written! otherwise we will still be stoning women for adultery and that slavery is completely acceptable…..

  3. When Paul states that women are not to be leaders and teachers in the church he refers back to creation order. It’s not just ‘temporarily’ of the culture. If you want to pretend that this was just a cultural issue then you could apply that to any edict of Christ you don’t like.
